The following is
a transliteration by Sri Ramen Basu of one of Sri Sri Babathakur’s songs (Song No. 44 appearing
within the Karma O Sadhan Tattva section of Swanubhava Sudha Vol. 2).
Life-long human being
has been struggling with his own adversary, the cardinal passions
Inner enemy, the
outer enemy he himself is a papier mache of the acts of gunas
One’s own self has
conflict and enmity with one’s own modifications of the inner sense
Verily one’s own
modifications of the inner sense always hinder to one’s own self
Builds up the realm
of the innate nature with much exultation for the amorous play of the mind
Fancies countless
dreams obsessed with moods
Enters into the inner
realm of ideas.
With the discord of
emotions falls into confusion
Thus forgets the innate
nature
Consequent on the
mutual rivalry between self contradictory emotions
Enmeshes itself in
the net of illusions.
The friend and foe on
the canvas of innate nature
The battle-ground within
and without like Kurushkshetra
In the life-struggle the
self is verily struggling with one’s own mind everywhere
The inner passions as
adversaries beguile and invade
Sex-passion, anger,
greed, infatuation, vanity and envy harass.
The wretched
individual (Jiva) has forgotten that he is Shiva (the Essence) by nature
So the six inherent
enemies made him an animal, made him an embodied being
Perchance ever he
suppresses the sex-passion
Coming from behind the
anger attacks fiercely
Not easily the anger
is subdued, nor negated
The fire of anger causing
the mind burn does great harm
If the anger subsides
comes the greed, the great rogue
Along with appears
the infatuation, the vanity, the dark ignorance
On the defeat of the
greed the infatuation dawns
Chasing away the
infatuation the vanity appears and seizes all
The friend of vanity,
the envy, known as jealousy
Desires all the time
the respect, fame, vainglory, authority and the victory
Alas! Jiva (the individual) beats the breast being
caught in their clutches
How much more will he
struggle, thinks helplessly
Battle of the austere
penance - a mark of his struggling life
The victory if won ever-immortal
will be his lot
To seek victory in
the life’s struggle be conscious now
The even-awareness be
your Sadhana
Accept, accommodate,
adjust and embrace all
As the Self-I in Self
Consciousness.
In the Sadhana of one’s
Own Consciousness
Perception of
difference-non-difference is dispelled
Friend and foe, one’s
own and the other merge in Self Consciousness
The essence of all consciousness
is the Self Consciousness of one’s Own
Through one’s Own
Consciousness the practice of all consciousness is done
One’s Own
Consciousness verily is all-even Consciousness
The substratum of all
consciousness
By the meditation on one’s
Own Consciousness
The nescience and the
ignorance are negated
Sex-passion becomes the
Love then; the anger becomes the Prowess
The greed becomes the
Affection
The infatuation
becomes the Oblation to the Sacrificial Fire in Self Consciousness
The vanity becomes
the Attendant, the envy becomes the upholder of Equanimity
Being the abode of the
Wit, Bliss, Love and Beauty of the Self-I
The six cardinal
passions become the Servient of the Self Consciousness
